Paragon VMDK Mounter gives you full high-speed read/write access to virtual disks under Mac. Very easy to use: mount a virtual container by double clicking or using Finder's 'Open With' context submenu. Alternatively a powerful CLI (Command Line Interface) utility allows you to create and mount a virtual container. Paragon Hard Disk Manager for Mac is a system and data management solution for Apple computers. It provides powerful backup and flexible recovery features, everything you need for perfect partitioning, and reliable data wiping algorithms. The best solution is to back up your Mac to VMDK and launch it in the VMware Fusion virtual environment. Use VMware Fusion if you need it on a Mac, jambo28. Create a VM of the OS and specifics that you know of that VMDK - so e.g. Windows XP if that is what the vmdk disk is for. The OS for the new VM needs to be of the same OS as the OS on that vmdk file (or as close to it as possible). After it's been created, point the VM to the vmdk for it's HD.

A tool has been release that allows the mounting of other virtual disks formats also. I will demonstrate vmdk disk mounter using paragon.
1st paragon is free , but you have to get aregistration & productkey. This take a few seconds do and they send the key via email.

After you run thru the installer and it can take some time, you can now execute the application. My 1st try at this software generated a mount_error. I never figured out why, and the vmdk in question works perfectly fine on the vmserver that hosts this image.
Now after you select a vmdk file, you can mount the vm-disk and it will show up into diskutil, mount and df details.
A puppylinux vdi image also gave errors;
Other vdi images gave errors also so I'm still investigating and WTF.
For now, the qcow format diskimage will have to wait. I've sent two email requesting more information from them and they have never responded for my request.
